Andy Roberts Music on Tuesday Nights I’ve been trying out ustream.tv for making live broadcast videos and I think it’s something I’d like to experiment with further. So I decided to pick a day and time to see if I can persuade a few people to tune in for some simultaneous music and chat. I decided on Tuesday Evenings at 7.00pm UK time for now, but that could always change if turns out not to be a good choice. I have broadband issues right now, so this may not start with immediate effect but I’m intending to broadcast most Tuesdays throughout August and then resume mid September. It should be easy enough to notify anybody of schedule changes once we get going.

Ustream.tv Ustream.tv is essentially a narrowcast media, allowing anybody to start up a channel and ‘broadcast’ live from a computer. All you need is a webcam, and built-in microphone to start with, and a decent broadband connection, which I intend to have very soon. So what’s going to happen on Tuesday Evenings on the Andy Roberts Music channel? Well that depends who turns up, but the intention is to busk a load of songs, as the whim takes me, and keep an eye on the chat room at the same time. Maybe there’ll be somebody else, who knows. The technology allows for the show to be transferred across to other hosts, so in theory we could end up with a series of ‘floor spots’ as it were, all the while keeping the same crowd connected. Bands, ustream and youTube One of the big advantages with the ustream system is the way the live shows can also be recorded and saved, and instantly uploaded to youTube as well. Bands can do this quite successfully by building up support for a ‘live internet gig’ weeks in advance, then performing in a room with a webcam placed in the corner to pick up the whole band. The online audience an get a real sense of being present at a live event. But me , I’ll just be sitting at my iMac with a guitar and keyboard, generating lots of song files and interacting with whoever turns up. I hope by making it a regular event that some kind of build up might happen over the weeks, to amass a small group of regulars from amongst the billions of internet users out there who might be interested in acoustic music with me. Well I missed a week last week due to illness and I had a busy day on Wednesday in central London for the afternoon but it was good to be back at Havering Folk Club for the evening entertainment. Quite a fun night as it turned out with Bert compering in a hilarious style.I suddenly decided to play an old country cowboy song, Old Paint which I learned originally from the second Loudon Wainright LP. Havering Folk Club Open Night

Another Open Night session last night at Havering Folk Club and I played quite late on in the proceedings but refrained from singing in French as I am want to do after a few pints. Instead I previewed a rediscovered old song of mine for which the chords had been lost but now they are found. The song is called "Now that I'm Living Here" and here is the 1980 version on Last.fm: Now That I'm Living Here - Andy Roberts or maybe it's just called Living HereThen there was a repeat of Bob Dylan's 'Mozambique" from the Desire album. Here the video from the previous time I played that one.

I've got around to updating the Lifestream thingy here at andyrobertsblog and added some music stuff into the sidebar.

At present most of the music is orientated towards the April 1st Event:

last night I returned to playing Andy Roberts Music at the Havering Folk Clubon a slightly quieter than usual singers night. Some of the regulars were off sick with colds etc and the audience seemed less inclined to join in the singing. There were some excellent new floor spots though, with more guitar players than usual which makes a change.So I played my most recent version of Searching for Venus with reference to the recent conjunction of Venus and Jupiter with the moon. Hmm, well it seems the version on Last.fm is very different so maybe I'll need to re-record that one in the new year.Then I played "When the Waters Rise" which is a dramatic tango about climate change but realised I haven't successfully memorised all the words yet.Due to the new campaign to start the evening's entertainment more promptly there was even time to do one number in the second half so I played "The Wreckers Prayer" again since I've been getting some very positive feedback about that particular song.
