Wednesday 17th November, an ordinary singers' night at Havering folk club but they did have some special Cornish beer on tap which meant I had to sing in French. So here's "Ca Sert A Quoi?" written by Maxime le Forestier: It was late in the evening, almost the end in fact, and then my guitar strap broke. So I put it away and sang unaccompannied or acapella as it's sometimes known. "Going up Camborne Hill Coming Down" is a good old Cornish sing song staple, more often heard in rugby clubs, late night drinking sessions or ex-pat reunions than at folk clubs but it does have a serious side, commemorating the historic first ever steam engine ride on Christmas Eve 1801 by Richard Trevithick, the Cornish engineer. I don;t get all the words exactly right, but the beauty of this is how quickly people who've never heard the song before can pick it up and join in.

Podcast #20: new Procaster tool, better audio quality?
http://andyroberts.me/podcast/podcast-20-new-procaster-tool-better-audio-quality
This week’s podcast is a landmark for being number 20 and for the change in technology. The switch from Ustream to Livestream was originally forced by connectivity problems and interruptive advertising. A downside was a slight loss in audio quality evidenced in the eventual mp3 files produced from the Livestream saved videos. There are several ways I could have tackled this, most involving an additional recording device such as a video camera or a digital audio recorder, which I don’t have yet. The audio recorder would cost about £150 and since the podcast doesn’t generate any income, cannot really be justified. The Livestream website kept suggesting the use of an installed app called procaster, but when I tested it the first time, it didn’t recognise my built-in webcam and seemed to want to run Windows on the Mac – yeugh!. But now there’s a proper Mac version and very good it is too. So this week is the first using that new technique, and I’m much happier with the technical quality of the podcast produced, number 20 – if not with the performance, but it was like going back to doing another prototype. In unfamiliar territory, I couldn’t resist playing about with the screencasting facilities and so there are only four songs on the cast this week, which is fine.

Century
http://andyrobertsmusic.blogspot.com/2009/07/century.html
I had decided to play for the very first time in public, my old song "Century" at Havering Folk Club this week and I'm glad I did. The video didn't come out, so I'll have to do it again sometime, but that's OK. Afterwards, since it was the day after Bastille Day I had to do a French song, one of Maxime le Forestier but not San Francisco this time, the other one I know - Ca sert a quoi. There was time for one more in the second half so continuing a theme about boats I played Yellow Boat

Ça sert à quoi, tout ça?
http://andyrobertsmusic.blogspot.com/2009/01/sert-quoi-tout.html
By Maxime Le ForestierUn beau matin,On vient au monde. PersonneNe l'entend.
