Podcast #50 – Haverfolk 2
http://andyroberts.me/havering-folk-club/podcast-50-haverfolk-2
This is the second in a series of podcasts put together from the audio backup recordings made during the Andy Roberts night at Haverfolk on January 25th 2012. Weeks have passed since then and this is a relatively quick and easy way for me to get the stuff processed and out there. There do exist some better quality recordings but these will have to wait for the DVD, which is supposed to be ready in time for the next gig at Loughton Folk Club coming up soon on April 19th 2012. Podcast #50 comprises of the second half of set one, before the break, so here is are the shownotes, the setlist: Here is the download podcast link, file details show notes and set list for podcast number 50: Subscribe to the podcast RSS or get it from iTunes Download MP3 to save – 28.8 Mb in size, playtime 20 minutes 0 seconds :- 50 Andy Roberts Podcast Episode 50.mp3 Andy Roberts Podcast #50 Shownotes Show Notes for Podcast 50

Google+ Hangout for Podcast #47
http://andyroberts.me/podcast/google-hangout-for-podcast-47
For this week’s podcast I wanted to experiment with using Google+ , a new(ish) social networking site which has a feature they call “hangout” for bringing groups of people together by video link. It’s kind of like a group video call with a text chat, so superficially not that disimilar really to the ustream and livestream systems that I’ve been using for the weekly Tuesday night broadcasts up until about April this year. Do you need a Google+ invitation? Click here The Google+ service as a whole is getting a lot of attention even though it only launched to the public this month, and even though the circles metaphor can be a bit cumbersome, there’s a tendency towards fuller conversations and better discovery that makes it interesting for musicians, I think. But all that could change as the new platform develops, we’ll have to see. What intrigues me though, is the way that Google is integrating many of their popular services together, and Google of course is behind youTube. I’ve been waiting for youTube “Live” to open up but for the time being that seems to be open only to a few international TV stations. There is some confusing talk about youTube live being available on Google+ hangouts but thsi always turns out to be about taking the existing youTube live streams and relaying them into a Hangout, rather than using the Hangout to generate a new livestream that can be relayed out into youTube live, and saved as youTube videos in a channel, which the direction I’m probably looking for. Google+ Hangout So we planned to try out the ‘Hangout’ feature within Google+, this Sunday afternoon just gone at 3.00pm, and the result has been incorporated into this Andy Roberts podcast episode #47. Google+ Hanging out If you wanted to take part in future Google+ events with me, or just listen in as it happens, then you would need to activate a Google+ Profile if you don’t already have one, and add me to a circle. Again, if you need a Google+ invitation you can get one here Sunday Afternoons, 3.00pm Oh yes, and the other thing that’s changed is that we’ve moved to Sunday afternoons for the regular weekly spot, at 3.00pm UK time, which is currently GMT+1 with daylight saving. That’s 10pm in Beijing. The Sunday afternoon 3.00pm time slot will continue throughout the month of August.

Podcast Episode 31 Re-recorded
http://andyroberts.me/andy-roberts/podcast-episode-31-re-recorded
Here’s another version of podcast episode 31 re-recorded on Wednesday morning with most of of the same songs roughly, as the one which went out live on Tuesday evening. So if you were there, online watching the show and chatting with Linda in one of the realtime boxes then you should notice this isn’t exactly the same performance. The instrumental guitar pieces for example, as improvisations will be will be very different. I’m sure one or two sings are missing too, and one or two added. That’s all part of the process. And the new strings will be over twelve hours old now as well, instead of being only 12 minutes since restringing. I had even thought of doing the restring live on the podcast itself, as a piece of performance a-r-t but Linda said it wouldn’t make a very good audio podcast and I came around to that point of view eventually. Here’s the web player, download link, tracklist and show notes for Podcast Episode 31:

10 : Andy Roberts Music Podcast
http://andyroberts.me/andy-roberts-music/10-andy-roberts-music-podcast
Four Original Songs + 1 Bob Dylan in the Andy Roberts music podcast Episode 10 There’s a bit of an improvised introduction tune followed by four more original Andy Roberts music songs and a final Bob Dylan song in this weeks podcast, all played on the 12 string guitar. Two of the songs are revivals from the Andy Roberts Tapes which was recorded in 1980, the other two are a bit newer, well Shifting Sands dates back to spring 2003 as far as I can remember and the Cajun cooking song was written on that Spain trip which immediately followed, so yes, two from the tapes and two from The Gernika album. Here are the links and shownotes for Podcast Episode 10:
Subscribe to the podcast RSS feed using the url: http://andyroberts.me/?feed=podcast Subscribe in iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/andy-roberts/id378470885 You can also download the MP3 audio file which is 24.4Mb in size and 25 minutes long from this link 10 Andy Roberts Podcast Episode 10.mp3 There’s also a stored video file from the live broadcast over at Ustream.tv where the podcasting event takes place on Tuesdays at 7.00pm UK time Video Podcast Episode No 10 Podcast Episode 10 Show Notes Show notes and information for Podcast Episode 10 broadcast on September 7th, published on September 7th 2010. Improvised Intro Ephemeral work with lyrics and music by And Roberts Joan of Ark Named after a specific Hotel in the Marais, Paris, Andy Roberts’ song Joan of Ark tends to get wheeled out every autumn due to the seasonal references. From The Andy Roberts Tapes Suitcase Another one from the tapes, and a kind of sequel to the above really. I’m not really completely comfortable with being the person who wrote this song, all that time ago, but the tune is catchy and the guitar runs were developed for the 12 string guitar, yes the same guitar. Shifting Sands I may have played this recently, not sure now, but anyway here it is again. Music and Lyrics by Andy Roberts. Cajun Music Cajun Food One of the Spanish songs, and still crying out for a fiddle and accordion but I do my best with the solo guitar. From the album Gernika I Shall Be Released Music and lyrics by Bob Dylan, arrangement Andy Roberts

Nancy Kerr and James Fagan at Havering Folk Club
http://andyrobertsmusic.blogspot.com/2009/05/nancy-kerr-and-james-fagan-at-havering.html
May 6th was the awaited guest night for Nancy Kerr and James Fagan at Havering Folk Club. Recently returned from Australia, the pair were on great form. Nancy Kerr plays violin, viola and I think it was an autoharp, while James Fagan plays an instrument with the body of a guitar but four pairs of strings. And both sing at the same time in perfect harmony. Nancy Kerr and James Fagan's mySpace I had the honour of starting off the evening again this week and played my own song Shifting Sands and then played a Tim Hardin song called "Reason To Believe" which a lot of people seemed to recognise, probably it was once the A side to Rod Stewart and the Faces' Maggie May.
